Stay in the Sphere Lab of Cresp de Montréal
We are pleased to announce that Pablo Villar Abeijón , doctoral researcher in GEMOTT , has started a three-month research stay (September 1 – December 1, 2025) in the SphereLab of the Center de recherche en santé publique (CReSP) of the Université de Montréal , under the supervision of Professor Yan Kestens .
During his stay, Pablo will collaborate on the “Sustainable Healthy Cities: The Interplay between Urban Interventions, Gentrification, and Population Health” project, whose objective is to analyze the relationships—including causal ones—between urban interventions (for example, pedestrian streets or bike lanes), population health and gentrification processes in Montreal.
His contribution will focus on the design and validation of gentrification indicators, based on the experience gained in the analysis of pedestrianization and active transport projects in Barcelona. This comparative approach between both cities will allow progress in the construction of new methods and indicators, with a direct contribution to the development of the project.
This stay represents a valuable opportunity for international academic exchange that reinforces the links between GEMOTT and SphereLab, and constitutes a relevant step in the preparation of the last article of Pablo Villar-Abeijón’s doctoral thesis.
