GEMOTT researcher Monika Maciejewska recently participated in the workshop “Women on the Move: Rethinking Active Mobility” , a space for debate and exchange focused on the relationship between gender, mobility and health .
The day included an opening lecture by Natalie Mueller , who presented scientific evidence on the positive impacts of active mobility on health . From this introduction, the workshop gave way to different round tables in which researchers, professionals and institutional representatives reflected on the challenges and opportunities to move towards more inclusive mobility.
The first roundtable addressed mobility patterns and needs from a gender perspective , with particular attention to the barriers that many women encounter when using bicycles. Among the factors identified were issues related to safety, the quality of infrastructure, social norms and daily care responsibilities .
The second round table brought together representatives of public transport operators and local administrations, who shared initiatives and policies aimed at reducing the gender gap in mobility and promoting more accessible and inclusive active and public transport systems.
GEMOTT’s participation in this type of space contributes to reinforcing the importance of incorporating the gender perspective and equity in the design of urban mobility policies.
The researcher highlighted the value of the workshop as an inspiring space for exchange between research, public policies and professional practice.
