GEMOTT’s participation in ENHR 2025, an international space for debate on housing, city and mobility
Doctoral student Pablo Villar Abeijón , member of the Mobility, Transport and Territory Study Group ( GEMOTT ), has participated as a speaker in the ENHR Grand Paris 2025 ( European Network for Housing Research ) international conference, held from July 1 to 4 at the Université Gustave Eiffel (Marne-la-Vallée, France).
His paper, presented on July 1 at the “Residential Environments and People” Workshop , is entitled: “Can pedestrianization trigger gentrification?” In it, Villar explores the possible links between urban pacification policies —such as the creation of pedestrian zones— and the gentrification processes that can result from them, especially in dense urban contexts with tense housing markets.
Based on a critical and multidisciplinary approach, the work raises the question of whether these interventions, often designed to improve the quality of life and reduce road traffic, can also have collateral effects on the socioeconomic composition of neighborhoods , access to housing and the continuity of resident communities.
Pablo Villar’s participation in the ENHR Grand Paris 2025 is part of GEMOTT’s line of work on urban transformations, sustainable mobility and spatial justice , and reinforces the group’s commitment to quality research, with an international vocation and with an impact on public policies.
At GEMOTT we celebrate that young researchers in the group can share their work in forums of this level and contribute to the European debate on housing, cities and mobility.
