The group has obtained funding in the 2025 “Proof of Concept” call, promoted by the Ministry of Science and Innovation and the State Research Agency, for the development of the project Mapping the Future: Interactive Tools for Prospective Urban Planning (FUTURBAN) .
This call aims to accelerate the transfer of research results into practical applications. In the 2025 edition, a total of 183 grants were awarded, with a global budget of 29.9 million euros. In the case of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, six projects were funded, among which FUTURBAN stands out as the only proposal from the field of social sciences.
The FUTURBAN project aims to transform years of research into urban indicators into an interactive tool that facilitates decision-making by public administrations. Specifically, it aims to develop instruments that allow prioritizing interventions in the built environment based on data, in order to maximize the social and urban return on investments.
The initiative has the participation of research staff from several academic institutions, including the University of the Balearic Islands, the University of Granada, the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and the University of Guadalajara.
With this new project, GEMOTT consolidates its track record in attracting competitive funding aimed at knowledge transfer, and reaffirms its commitment to connecting research, data and urban planning. The aim is to contribute to more informed decision-making and move towards healthier, more accessible and sustainable cities.
