On April 29–30, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona hosted the kick-off meeting of the Y-MOVE project (Youth Mobility & Views for a sustainable, equitable and resilient future), a collaborative European initiative under the ECIU framework, bringing together research teams from Finland, Poland, Portugal, and Spain.

The project aims to investigate current mobility behaviors and perceptions of sustainable transport among university students, a pivotal demographic in shaping future mobility patterns. Through a mixed-methods approach—including surveys, photovoice, focus groups, and GNSS tracking—Y-MOVE seeks to generate comparative insights that can inform policy and educational strategies across Europe.

The two-day meeting provided a platform to align research methodologies, define collaborative roles, and strengthen ties among the consortium. A strong emphasis was placed on involving Master’s and PhD students to foster experiential learning and engagement with real-world sustainability challenges.

Y-MOVE not only explores how young people move—it mobilizes knowledge, collaboration, and future change.
